Russian Spotlight and the Moscow Committee Welcome Denis Matsuev and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra
As co-Founders of Russian Spotlight and co-chair of the Moscow Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International, Laura Yergesheva and I were thrilled to host a reception for the world-renowned Russian pianist Denis Matsuev and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
The exclusive pre-concert VIP reception was held at Orchestra Hall, home of the Chicago Symphony. Guests were treated to wine and hors d’oeuvres and the chance to meet Denis Matsuev. The impeccable performance was followed by a champagne reception.
Russian Spotlight and the Moscow Committee are dedicated to ‘spotlighting’ Russia’s immense contributions to the arts, and the reception was a wonderful way for Russians and Russian-Americans to come together and honor one of their national treasures.
“Born in Irkutsk, Soviet Union, Denis Matsuev is the only child of two musicians, as his mother is a piano teacher and his father is a pianist and composer. He demonstrated a musical ear at age 3, when he reproduced on the piano at home a melody that he heard on television. His father subsequently became his first piano teacher”. [1]
As his career began to flourish, he received many high honors such as the DaCapo KlassiK Award Pianist of the Year, the People's Artist of Russia, and just recently the prestigious Order of Honour 2018.
Per the Chicago Tribune: “Matsuev yielded a greater sense of nostalgia and tenderness than we associate with Rachmaninoff’s recordings….every note Matsuev played rang true. [2]
Thank you CSO President Jeff Alexander and VP of Artistic Programming Cristina Rocca for your warm hospitality and welcome.
