Pointe shoe exhibit at National Dance Museum
Russian Pointe® by Aleksandra® is pleased to be supporting a new exhibit called “En Pointe!” that will go on display at the National Museum of Dance in Saratoga Springs, NY, beginning in December.
The exhibit will explore the history, myths, and reality of pointe shoes and ballet. Visitors will be able to see dance’s most significant icon — the pointe shoe — sawed in halves, dismantled to its raw materials, and in every way revealed. The exhibit will also feature interviews with professional dancers and historical explanations of the pointe evolution.
Russian Pointe has donated 100 pairs of shoes to the exhibit, so visitors will be able to see the inner workings of the shoes and what makes them so sturdy and reliable.
In conjunction with the exhibit, The National Museum of Dance is also hosting a pointe shoe decorating contest. Dancers in four age groups (12 and under, 12 to 16, 16 to 21, and 21 and over), can put glitter, beads, jewels and other decorations on a used shoe and mail them to the museum by Feb. 1, 2012. One winner in each age group will receive a National Museum of Dance prize pack and $100 (which they can spend on a new pair of shoes!)
We are proud to show more people what makes pointe shoes such a beloved element of dance and an emblem of beauty around the world.
