Getting Colorful and Creative
Holidays at the Russian Pointe Dance Boutique usually mean one thing – time to decorate pointe shoes!
We’ve been holding pointe shoe decorating parties for over two years on special holidays. Usually, girls and their mothers come to the boutique and every girl receives her very own Russian Pointe shoe that she can decorate with glitter and sequins.
This year, so many people came to the Valentine's Day Pointe Shoe Decorating Party on Saturday, Feb. 12 that we had to keep finding extra chairs so everyone could work on a shoe at the craft table.
The girls talked about how much they love their ballet classes, what parts they’ve danced in the Nutcracker and where they’re going to be attending ballet summer camps. Several of them even got up on the stage and performed a dance for me.
The party is supposed to be for girls, but surprisingly, the moms seem to be as enthusiastic about decorating the shoes as their daughters.
Now, I can see why! I’ve attended the decorating parties before, but this Saturday was the first time I actually decorated a pointe shoe myself. I had so much fun! I made it purple, of course (my favorite color). And I still have glitter in my hair.
I’m definitely looking forward to the next decorating party!
