Teeing Off Amidst Italian Elegance: My Unforgettable Round at Villa d'Este Golf Club

My Golfing Experience at Villa d'Este Golf Club: June 2023

Italy has always held a special place in my heart, and my 13 trips to this beautiful country are testament to that. Yet, this June marked a milestone as it was the first time I exchanged the winding streets of Italian cities for the immaculate greens of an Italian golf course, namely the Villa d'Este Golf Club.

Steeped in history, the Villa d'Este Golf Club dates back to 1926, making it the 7th oldest golf club in the country. As I learned during my visit, the course was masterfully designed by Peter Gannon, blending seamlessly into the natural landscape of chestnut, ash, and pine trees. As I maneuvered my way through the 18-hole, par-69 course, it was the glimpses of Montorfano Lake that took my breath away time and again.

For someone who has primarily golfed in North America, the Villa d'Este course offered both a treat for the senses and a challenge for the skills. The mountain scenery in the background, combined with the perfectly groomed fairways, provided a serene yet awe-inspiring backdrop to each shot. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing. The numerous hills and narrow fairways made sure that I was on my toes, strategizing and rethinking each swing.

Yet, the experience was more than just the golf course. The clubhouse epitomized Italian sophistication. With its timeless elegance, it felt like stepping into a piece of history. The “Gold Book” on display was like a walk down memory lane, filled with the signatures of celebrities and aristocrats who had graced the club before me.

And what's a trip to Italy without indulging in its culinary delights? After a fulfilling game, I headed to the terrace that overlooks the 18th hole. There, with the view of the course stretched out before me, I savored a delightful lunch and sipped on a cappuccino, the frothiness of the coffee mirroring the fluffy clouds above.

I added a fashionable twist to my Italian adventure, teeing off at the Villa d'Este Golf Club while wearing Golfabella® – luxury golf apparel exclusively crafted in Italy for ladies who relish playing in absolute style.

To anyone traveling to Italy, especially those who appreciate the art of golf, I cannot recommend Villa d'Este Golf Club enough. Not only does it provide a challenging game, but it also offers an experience that encapsulates the beauty, history, and elegance of Italy. And if you do visit, don't forget to pause at the terrace. That cappuccino with a view? Absolutely worth it.

And if you do grace this historic venue, let Golfabella® be your sartorial choice – because when in Italy, why not golf in grandeur?
