On May 14, I joined fellow ULC members for "The Business of Fashion," a presentation and casual fashion show by Maria Pinto at the Union League Club of Chicago. I've known Maria for almost a decade, having first met her when she designed costumes for Joffrey Ballet here in Chicago.

This wonderful designer, who has created dresses for such notables as Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey, has creatively reinvented her work to meet today's marketplace. She has created the new brand M2057, beautiful clothing made in smart fabrics for everyday, business and occasion wear. Maria, whose mother is turning 100, explained that her new brand is a forward-looking reference to the year in which she herself will reach the century mark.

Listening to Maria and seeing her designs was truly inspirational. She has successfully moved into the future, creating a smart fit between what she offers and the needs of her potential customers. Any entrepreneur could learn from her outstanding creativity and responsiveness!
